Mullion, on the eastern side of Mounts Bay, is situated on the Lizard Peninsula, about 5 miles (8 km) south of Helston.  Mullion Island, an uninhabited island lies approximately half a mile (0.8 km) offshore from Mullion Cove (also known as Porth Mellin). The island is home to large colonies of seabirds and is now owned by the National Trust.
