GambleAware Helping Raise Awareness of Gambling

Gambling has continued to develop at a rapid pace, matching the advancement in technology globally. Most high-end bookies are currently making their services available on websites. Online betting is growing since it helps everyone bet from the convenience of their homes and workplaces.

Following the increased accessibility, there is a spike in addiction among players.

GambleAware’s Goals and Trends

GambleAware is a British organization that continues to raise awareness of the dangers of gambling. During a press release, the charity stated that the awareness levels continue to grow following robust campaigns.

As such, in 2021, GambleAware dedicated more than $4 million to its continuing campaign. Its initiative is part of the National Gambling Treatment Services (NGTS) awareness program. The program realizes its success with the increase in the number of high-risk players willing to call.

GambleAware is especially keen to help high-risk players in their 20’s to mid-50s. Data shows that people in this group are at a higher risk of becoming gambling addicts.

The Focus Group

The charity firm recently released survey data that shows people’s responsiveness to treatment options. Data showed that at-risk players are now more likely to contact NGTS when their gambling habit becomes a problem. GambleAware congratulates the players saying that accepting and seeking out help is the basis of treatment.

Gambling Awareness Achievements

In 2020, a survey recorded the total number of at-risk players. They were required to state whether they felt the need to call the center because of their gambling. Only 47% thought it was necessary, but through campaigns, a 2021 survey shows that up to 60% agree that calling is crucial to treatment.

In the spring of 2020, the organization ran an awareness initiative across many channels targeting both men and women. The campaign ran across radio, online, magazines, newspapers, and out-of-home advertising.

The firm’s initiative was aimed at reaching at-risk players that were experiencing harm from their addiction. Campaign data showed that the number of high-risk gamblers that called increased by 13% from May 2020 to August 2021.

GambleAware also realized that the total of high-risk gamblers that were gambling increased during that period. The trend was due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which closed down most activity areas that helped the gamblers cope.

Innovative Support Systems

Because of the lockdown, online chats and calls to the NGTS helpline also spiked. They were up by 41% over a year between March 2020 and March 2021.

Through their campaigns, GambleAware has realized an increase in the number of at-risk male gamblers trying to change. Up to 34% by August 2021 had stated that they have been using the National Gambling Headline as a support tool.

Thirty-three percent of those players not yet trying to stop their gambling behavior stated that they would contact the organization if needed help.

GambleAware monitors the NGTS campaign response and will soon integrate its results in the Annual GB Treatment and Support Survey.
