The Brazil Most-Talented Player, Formiga to Retire from Football

The most capped Brazil’s player, Formiga is set to retire from her international duty later this month. According to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), her retirement marks an end to her seven World Cups and Olympic Games career.

Formiga’s final game will be a friendly match against India on 25th Nov in Manaus. She has so far played 233 matches for Brazil.

She launched her career with Brazil when she was 17 years old during the 1995 World Cup. Formiga have since then played at every Olympic tournament since the first appearance of the women’s football at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

The 43-year-old played as a midfielder. She broke the record in July, as the first women’s player to participate in seven Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Formiga won silver at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and 2008 in Beijing. She was also part of the Brazil team that lost in the 2007 World Cup final.

Formiga’s last appearance in the World Cup was in 2019, when Brazil lost to their host France, in the 16th round.
